A Living Curricula for the Whole Child
Vermilion Bend Academy is proud to offer a remarkably unique, highly specialized, Montessori focused and neurologically, emotionally, and compassionately creative learning experience with a skilled, vibrant, and cARING staff here on the beautiful picturesque banks of the Vermilion river in Acadiana for children in kindergarten through ninth grade. A living arts, farm, garden, and whole-child academy where children are educated through beauty, intellect, nature, practical life, emotional depth, creativity, movement, and meaningful community.
Vermilion Bend Academy does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, the appointment to and termination of staff, selection of volunteers and vendors, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, clients, volunteers, subcontractors, and vendors.
What Makes Us Distinct in Acadiana
We believe we offer one of Acadiana’s most distinctive, beautiful, and whole-child-centered educational environments.
Not because we are trying to be everything to everyone. But because we are brave enough to be deeply ourselves.
We are Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio-inspired.
We are farm, garden, food, art, poetry, movement, STEAM, athletics, yoga, sensory, somatic, therapeutic, and academically serious.
We are intimate and alive. We are rigorous and tender. We are structured and imaginative.
We are old-fashioned in the best ways and innovative in the ways children need most.
We believe children should be able to diagram a sentence, write a poem, solve a math problem, plant herbs, prepare food, perform for an audience, build something with their hands, regulate their emotions, care for a friend, run hard, rest well, and speak with grace.
That is the education we are building. That is the school we are becoming more humanly, more clearly, and more beautifully.
"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."
-Aristotle
